The Grand Blanc, MI, Chamber of Commerce recently presented Dr. Alan Janssen with the Health Professional Hero Award for his outstanding contribution to improve the health and well being of the Grand Blanc Community.
Dr. Janssen, who is co-Assistant Director in the Emergency Department at Genesys Regional Medical Center, was honored for his work with law enforcement, including the implementation of a Narcan program for the community. As part of the program, he has trained more than 300 Oakland County Sheriffs Deputies, police officers and first responders on how to administer Narcan to opioid victims.
In addition, Dr. Janssen was also noted for his leadership efforts in combatting human trafficking Genesee County and the State of Michigan. He was instrumental in working with Ruth Johnson, who now serves as Michigan’s Secretary of State, in obtaining the passage of a new state law, which protects physicians and medical providers from liability.
Upon presenting the award, the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce noted that Dr. Janssen’s community efforts are changing the life of thousands of people locally, statewide and nationally.
In addition to his job at Genesys Regional Medical Center, Dr. Janssen has served as an Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Officer, a volunteer position, for the past 11 years. He also serves as the Sheriff’s Department’s tactical physician/medical director for the SWAT team, another volunteer role.
