James Augustine, MD, FACEP, is the chairman of the National Clinical Governance Board. 

Dr. Augustine is a board certified diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and a fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians. He currently serves on the board of directors of the American College of Emergency Physicians. In addition, he has been a member of national groups and organizations overseeing emergency medical services, emergency service quality improvement, benchmarking and best practices and disaster preparation.

Dr. Augustine holds his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University, graduating cum laude, and his medical degree from Wright State University School of Medicine. He performed an integrated residency in emergency medicine at Wright State University School of Medicine. He continues to serve as a clinical associate professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Wright State University.

Jim served with The Joint Commission, sitting on its board of commissioners, and as the chair of the Hospital Professional Technical Advisory Committee. He is the vice president of the ED Benchmarking Alliance and he is the executive editor of journal, ED Management. 

Jim has been married to Linda Augustine, a critical care nurse, for almost 30 years, and they have 3 grown children. Jim and Linda are community servants in the area of public safety, with long careers in fire and emergency medical services. Jim currently serves as a Medical Director for Fire EMS agencies in Atlanta, Georgia; Naples, Florida and Dayton, Ohio.
