Joseph Dougherty, DO, FACIO, FACOEP, CMD

Residency Program Director

Joseph Dougherty is currently the residency director of Ohio Valley Medical Center and clinical associate professor for Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine of Ohio University.

From 1996 to 2001, he was assistant medical director of St. John’s Father Murray Nursing Center. From 2002 to 2005, he was the assistant program director of the emergency medicine residency program at Ohio Valley Medical Center.

Dr. Dougherty has achieved several recognitions and awards for his work directing the emergency medicine residency program at Ohio Valley Medical Center. He has won the Benjamin Fields Award from the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (ACOEP) for mentor and educator excellence, and has been placed in the AOA Mentor Hall of Fame. Dr. Dougherty has publications in the Emergency Journal of Medicine and Academic Emergency Medicine, including topics of angioplasty and burnout in emergency medicine residency.

Dr. Dougherty received his bachelor’s degree in medical technology from the University of Pittsburgh School of Health Related Professions. He graduated from medical school at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Dougherty completed his internal medicine/emergency medicine residency through Henry Ford Bi-County Community Hospital in Warren, Michigan.
