Frequently Asked Questions
What is an emergency department?
An emergency department (ED) is a medical treatment facility that is either attached to a hospital or operates as a freestanding facility, providing medical care to patients who are experiencing acute or life-threatening conditions. EDs do not offer appointments and patients receive treatment based on the severity of their condition. Every ED is unique in its protocols, staffing, and access to specialty services and equipment/testing.
What is an Advanced Practice Provider (APP)?
Advanced Practice Providers (APP) are Physician Assistants (PAs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs) who are licensed healthcare professionals. Our APPs have day-to-day independence to care for patients, plus long-term support from their Physician colleagues. All APPs work under the supervision of our Physicians.
How long will I be in the ED/hospital?
The time you are in the ED/hospital will vary. The emergency care team will be responsible for managing your visit and treatment. You can address any questions or concerns with the team.
