Donovan Thompson, MD, FACEP, FAAEM is the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Carolinas HealthCare System Lincoln in Lincolnton, NC, a role he has had since 1999. He has also serves as Medical Director of the hospital's Chest Pain Center.

As ED Medical Director, he has seen the ED grow from 17,000 patient visits per year to nearly 50,000. In addition, he has overseen the creation of an updated and expanded department in the newly constructed hospital.

Dr. Thompson received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI. Dr. Thompson stayed in Detroit and completed his emergency medicine residency at Wayne State University/Grace Hospital/DMC in Detroit, MI.

Dr. Thompson is board certified in emergency medicine. 

Dr. Thompson has been married for more than 20 years and has two boys. He and his wife are active participants in powerlifting, holding multiple national titles and competing internationally. Dr. Thompson also coaches Team USA Bench Press World Team as well as his sons' baseball teams.
