  • Focus: One-year, mentored experience for aspirational leaders interested in a career in health equity in acute care (including EM, HM, and ICU). These fellows will facilitate changes to improve their communities as well as care across the acute care continuum.

  • Highlights: Designed to develop and train EM, HM, or ICU physicians to become subject matter experts in health equity. This fellowship is critical to our work to create leaders who can drive meaningful policy and structural changes in acute care.

  • Focus: One-year, mentored experience for aspirational leaders interested in making a career in innovation in acute and emergency care

  • Highlights: Under the direction of USACS National Director of Clinical Innovation Dr. Jesse Pines, the Fellowship can be accomplished from any USACS clinical site. Fellows have a national role in USACS and are mentored by the Chief Medical Officer team, participate in innovation projects, writing and educational opportunities, and have opportunities to develop and implement new care models such as telehealth, technology, novel payment approaches – as well as address timely clinical problems, such as the opioid crisis.

Rural Emergency Medicine

Cullman Regional Medical Center | Cullman, AL

  • Focus: The North Alabama Emergency Medicine Fellowship provides a unique opportunity for primary care physicians to become board certified in emergency medicine. This program is recognized by the American Academy of Emergency Physicians.

  • Highlights: 12-14 shifts per month in the ED. Specialized topics include ENT skills course, ortho and splinting course, and dental emergency. Unique learning opportunities for ballistic injuries, MVA trauma, and snake bites.
  • Outcome: Fellowship graduates will qualify for written and oral exams to receive board certification in emergency medicine (BCEM) by the American Board of Physician Specialists
