John Sverha, MD, has served as a Regional Quality Director for USACS since August 2022. He works clinically at VHC Health in Arlington, VA, where he currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Emergency Department and President of the Medical Staff.

Dr. Sverha’s administrative focus over the last 10 years has been in quality improvement with a special interest in sepsis and opioid safety. He received the Choosing Wisely Award from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in 2019 for his work on developing and implementing evidence-based clinical pathways. In addition, he served as a sideline Airway Management Physician for the Washington Commanders Football team from 2009-2018. He is also a long-time volunteer and current board member of the VHC Medical Brigade, whose mission is to increase local healthcare capacity and bring sustainable development to the poor and underserved in Honduras.

Dr. Sverha earned his undergraduate degrees in biology and political science from Stanford University. He went on to obtain his medical degree from Yale Medical School and completed his emergency medicine residency at University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC.
