Michael Silverman, MD, FACEP, is chairman of emergency medicine at the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA. He has been the author of numerous textbook chapters and original research papers and has been a lecturer at the American College of Emergency Physicians’ annual meeting. He has lectured extensively on professional and leadership development. He and his EDs have won several awards. 

Dr. Silverman is a graduate of Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he served as chief resident. He is the author of Director’s Corner: Lessons in Emergency Medicine Leadership and Management (Plaster Publishing 2014). His book is based on his popular month column, “Director’s Corner,” which he’s been writing for Emergency Physicians Monthly since 2008. 

In his free time, he enjoys photography, running and spending time with his family, particularly at the beach. More often than not, he can be found watching his kids on a sports field or walking his dog. He lives in Baltimore, MD.
