Roderick Alfonso, MD

Roderick Alfonso, MD, is a board-certified Emergency Physician and Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Pali Momi Medical Center in Aiea, Hawaii. He also serves as Chair of the Quality Council at Pali Momi and is a member of the USACS National Clinical Governance Board.

Prior to medicine, Dr. Alfonso worked in finance and corporate consulting, an experience that continues to shape his systems-based approach to healthcare leadership. He earned his bachelor's degree from New York University and his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine before completing his emergency medicine residency at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and Kings County Hospital Center, where he served as Chief Resident and was named Resident of the Year.

Dr. Alfonso completed both the USACS Scholars Program and the Hawaii Pacific Health Physician Leadership Development Program, demonstrating his commitment to continuously refining his leadership skill set. In 2026, he was honored as Pali Momi Medical Center's Physician of the Year in recognition of Doctors' Day.

He remains particularly interested in Physician sustainability, emergency department culture, clinical workflow innovation, and the thoughtful integration of artificial intelligence into emergency medicine. He believes the best way to improve patient care is by creating an environment where Physicians and APPs can thrive.
