Paul Davidson, MD
Paul Davidson, MD, is the Medical Director at Southlands Freestanding Emergency Department. He earned his medical degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
Dr. Davidson entered the Internal Medicine Residency program at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. While there, he developed an interest in ICU and Emergency Medicine. Dr. Davidson was accepted into the Denver Health Residency in Emergency Medicine and graduated with dual boarding in Internal Medicine/Emergency Medicine. He was recruited by the University of Colorado Hospital and joined the faculty upon graduation. He also worked in a hospitalist/intensivist capacity at both St. Anthony Central Hospital and at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in Alaska.
At the University of Colorado, Dr. Davidson spearheaded the development and project management of the Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Program, which was nonexistent at the time. He was involved in didactic teaching, credentialing and training of faculty and residents, vendor selection, funding of ultrasound equipment and an ultrasound QA program. He was also serving as the Assistant Residency Director at the Denver Health Residency in EM and published several articles in peer-reviewed journals, including the Annals of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Davidson left the University of Colorado Hospital to join a private emergency medicine physician group. While there, Dr. Davidson has been involved in several projects, including the training and credentialing of the practice physicians in basic Emergency Department Ultrasound applications as well as DVT ultrasound, 1st trimester pregnancy ultrasound, gallbladder ultrasound, as well as using ultrasound to safely guide central line placement.
In addition, Dr. Davidson led the effort for Centura’s adoption of Hypothermia After Cardiac Arrest (HACA) treatment of comatose cardiac arrest patients. He was responsible for the initial project management of the HACA program statewide for Centura.
Dr. Davidson designed the Southlands Freestanding Emergency Department. He currently serves as the Medical Director. According to Dr. Davidson, the freestanding ED was designed with Lean principles in mind and involved a unique joint venture with Health Images, an outpatient imaging firm.
Outside of the ED, Dr. Davidson enjoys Alpine and Telemark skiing, cycling and spending time with his wife, three teenagers and his dog, which is a Goldendoodle.
