Guyon Hill, MD, currently serves as core faculty and the Ultrasound Director for the pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at UT Austin – Dell Medical School and Dell Children's Medical Center. Previously, he served as residency faculty at three emergency medicine residencies and as the program director for one. He was the first doctor in the United States Army in two decades to pass Special Forces Selection and Qualification and earn the Green Beret. Dr. Hill spent the last half of his military career as both a fully qualified Special Forces Operator and emergency physician. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Brooke Army Medical Center where he also served as chief resident in addition to completing a pediatric emergency medicine fellowship. He is board certified in both emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine.
Dr. Hill developed the DOD standard for preparing graduating residents for combat deployments, a significant achievement highlighted in ACEP's History of Emergency Medicine. He has also completed eight combat deployments, directly participating in over 150 combat missions and receiving two bronze star medals for actions in combat. Dr. Hill has earned numerous other awards through his participation in combat and humanitarian operations.
