Research Fellowship - Saint Vincent Hospital

Saint Vincent Hospital | Erie, PA

  • Focus: Two-year, mentored program to train and retain the next generation of acute care researchers.
  • Fellowship Director: Jestin Carlson, MD - [email protected]
  • Highlights: Fellows take part in monthly research calls, departmental research initiatives, and conferences (e.g., ACEP, SAEM, ReSS, NAEMSP), with the opportunity to present research based on the fellow’s area of interest.
    • The primary focus of mentorship will be on the pragmatic component of the fellowship: design and implementation of a clinical research project, data analysis and interpretation, and publication of the results.
    • A second major focus of the mentorship will be career development. The fellow will meet with Dr. Jestin Carlson to identify and refine research hypotheses, design the project, troubleshoot data collection, and form analytic strategies. These meetings will also focus on academic development, with regard to grantsmanship, research collaboration, and opportunities to join national organizations.
  • Outcomes: Fellowship graduates earn an online Master of Science in Clinical Research for Health Professionals from Drexel University.
    • The 24-month program focuses on developing skills that will enable the fellow to turn research ideas into successful research studies, apply for funding, collect and analyze data, and publish the results.
    • Required coursework includes epidemiology, biostatistics, research ethics, and grant and manuscript writing. More information can be found here
