The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital is seeking a motivated and academically minded Emergency Ultrasound Director to join our faculty. This is an outstanding opportunity for a Physician educator with a passion for point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), resident education, and program development.

Position Overview

The Ultrasound Director will lead and oversee the emergency ultrasound curriculum within our ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine residency program. This role includes longitudinal resident education, hands-on bedside teaching, quality improvement, and didactic instruction, with protected time dedicated to ultrasound education and program leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Ultrasound Director for the Emergency Medicine residency program
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the residency ultrasound curriculum, aligned with ACGME and EM ultrasound guidelines
  • Provide weekly ultrasound education to residents, including:
  • Ultrasound fundamentals and image acquisition
  • Core emergency ultrasound applications
  • Advanced and evolving POCUS techniques
  • Conduct hands-on bedside ultrasound teaching in the Emergency Department
  • Lead and oversee ultrasound quality assurance (QA/QI), including image review and feedback
  • Participate in residency didactic conferences, simulation sessions, and faculty development
  • Mentor residents and faculty in ultrasound education, scholarship, and quality initiatives
  • Collaborate with residency leadership on curriculum design, assessment, and milestone evaluation
  • Participate in scholarly activity related to ultrasound education, QI, or clinical research (supported and encouraged)

Qualifications

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Emergency Medicine
  • Fellowship training in Emergency Ultrasound or equivalent experience with demonstrated expertise
  • Strong interest in resident education and bedside teaching
  • Experience with ultrasound QA/QI processes preferred
  • Commitment to academic Emergency Medicine and collaborative teamwork
