Gary Tamkin MD, FACEP

Dr. Gary Tamkin is vice president for provider development of USACS West and the medical director of emergency medicine for Mercy Medical Center Merced. He also is a volunteer associate clinical professor of the Emergency Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine, University of California, San Francisco; medical director for the California Highway Patrol, and a SWAT physician for the Merced County Sheriff's Office regional SWAT team. He chairs Common Spirit Health’s national Emergency Services Clinical Council and served as the President of California ACEP, where he was a recipient of the chapter’s highest award for meritorious service. 

He earned a bachelor’s degree with Honors from Brown University and his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine College of Medicine. He completed his residency at the Department of Emergency Medicine, Highland General Hospital, University of California San Francisco, where he was chief resident and president of the California Emergency Medicine Resident’s Association.
