Physician Scholars
The mission of our USACS Physicians Scholars program is to prepare qualified physicians for the role of site Medical Director. This platform is an extraordinary opportunity for personal and professional development.
Schedule & Commitment
The Physician Scholars program has a specific set schedule and typically begins early in the calendar year with an in-person meeting during Assembly. Subsequent 2-hour live virtual sessions are held twice monthly via Zoom, with an average expected time commitment of 8-10 hours per month.
Components
The Physician Scholars curricula has evolved over time to meet the ever-changing needs of the industry, our practice, and our physician leaders. Below is a sampling of program components:
- Personal and professional development
- Self-awareness, DiSC personality assessment, goal setting, time and energy management, and workstyle assessment and optimization
- Scholars Project
- Design and execute a site-specific performance improvement project using PDCA and CPI methodology in partnership with an associate from the USACS Clinical Resource Group
- Practice and site-specific financial management
- Medical Director MBOs
- Optimizing performance environment and team dynamics
- Coaching and feedback
- Staffing meeting best practices
- Risk and quality for Medical Directors
- Hospital administration relationships
- Complaint management
- Managing conflict and support team members in difficult situations
- Crucial conversations workshop
Eligibility
- Candidates must be a full time USACS physician in any clinical specialty and interested in becoming a future Medical Director.
- Note: APPs have a separate and distinct APP Scholars program.
- Preference will be given to physicians with high interest, potential for success, and willingness to relocate for Medical Director roles.
- Candidates must be willing and able to commit to meeting in-person at USACS Assembly.
- Candidates must be willing and able to meet the time and meeting expectations.
